North Carolina has reached a significant milestone in the 2024 general election, with over 1 million ballots already cast, according to the State Board of Elections. This achievement comes on the fourth day of in-person early voting in the state.
As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, the State Board of Elections reported that a total of 1,008,123 ballots had been cast. Of these, more than 900,000 were from early in-person voting, highlighting the strong voter turnout during the early voting period.
The board noted that the number of ballots cast represents approximately 13% of North Carolina's nearly 7.8 million registered voters. This turnout percentage reflects the active participation of voters in the state's electoral process.
Karen Brinson Bell, the executive director of the State Board of Elections, expressed her gratitude to the county boards of elections and the numerous election workers who have been instrumental in facilitating the voting process across the state. Their dedication and hard work have contributed to the smooth operation of the election.
Early voting in North Carolina, a key swing state in national elections, commenced on Thursday and will continue until November 2. The early voting period provides voters with the opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day, ensuring greater flexibility and accessibility in the voting process.
