As the deadline looms to avoid a government shutdown, a business owner in North Carolina is highlighting the critical need for disaster aid in her community. North Carolina, along with several other southeast states, was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene earlier this year.

Katie Button, who owns two restaurants in Asheville, is feeling the effects of the devastation caused by Helene. One of her restaurants remains closed, and she emphasized the importance of the disaster relief funding that is currently in jeopardy.

Government shutdown threatens crucial aid; Button urges passage of disaster relief bill.

Button expressed her frustration and disappointment at the prospect of a government shutdown with crucial aid hanging in the balance. She stressed the urgent need for the disaster relief bill to be passed, stating that the community is hanging on by a thread.

According to Button, the funds are not only essential for rebuilding and cleanup efforts but also for supporting small businesses that are at risk of permanent closure. She called on President-elect Donald Trump and elected officials to set aside political differences and prioritize the passage of the aid package.

Button emphasized that real people, including workers and businesses in the area, are in jeopardy if the funding is not approved. She urged swift action to ensure that the community receives the support it desperately needs.
