Elon Musk has been rolling out radical changes to Twitter since he acquired the platform last year. But his push toward paying users took a bit of a turn over the weekend when the billionaire announced temporary daily limits to the number of posts each user can view.
Musk said that the limits -- 6,000 posts a day for verified accounts and 600 for unverified accounts -- are being applied to address data scraping from AI companies. These numbers were later lifted to 10,000 and 1,000 respectively.

The changes to the platform, however, go far beyond simple tweet limits. Musk's push to convert Twitter's many users into paying customers has stretched into TweetDeck, with Twitter Support saying July 3 that unverified users will lose access to the feature in 30 days.
The pending limitation came at the bottom of an announcement laying out a new version of the feature, which now supports "full composer functionality," including Spaces, polls and video docking.
"When you have a mission like Twitter -- you need to make big moves to keep strengthening the platform. This work is meaningful and on-going," CEO Linda Yaccarino said, echoing a company statement that the new limitations are meant to ensure the "authenticity of our user base."

"At times, even for a brief moment, you must slow down to speed up," Twitter said in a statement. "At a high level, we are working to prevent these accounts from 1) scraping people’s public Twitter data to build AI models and 2) manipulating people and conversation on the platform in various ways."
