Newmains residents are being asked to nominate a special someone for a top award in the village.
This year sees the return of the Newmains Citizen of the Year award and nominations are now open.
Entries by letter, explaining why they should be considered, should be handed to a member of the Newmains Gala Day Committee.
These will be forwarded for consideration.
Davy Wilson, from Newmains Gala Committee is a former winner himself and is delighted the competition is returning.
He said: “The Citizen of the Year has been running in Newmains since the 1980s.
“The gala committee used to take the nominations before we handed them over to Newmains Advice Centre but now that is closed we will be looking for another group to pick the winner.
“I think for anyone to be recognised by members of their own community is a big honour.
“Whoever does win the award will thoroughly deserve it and we are hoping for as many entries as we possibly can.”
The closing date for entries is May 25.
You can hand your nomination letters to gala committee members Mary Gilfillan, Davy Wilson, Stuart Bryson, Isabel Mould, Kellyann Wilson, Laura Nelson, Tony Rea, and Angela Young.
