The Noida authority has decided to resurface internal roads in the city through a new technique called “hot in-place” under which the top layer of the road is removed before putting on a new layer. The authority will use this technique to resurface the 25 km-long Noida-Greater Noida Expressway as well. The move is to ensure the level of the road stays the same because it keeps going up with each surfacing activity.
“We want to first remove the top layer before resurfacing the road with a new layer because the level of the road keeps fluctuating with every resurfacing, which leads to water logging during the rainy season. We will start resurfacing the Noida Expressway in a similar manner by first removing the top layer and then resurface it with a fresh layer on top. We have decided to use this new technique after we found the results satisfying during a test run,” said KK Aggarwal, general manager of the Noida authority.
According to officials, work on this will be initiated after May 23, when the Lok Sabha Elections are over.
They said a tender will be floated to select an agency for the work, and they expect that work will be started by October and completed by December-end.
The Noida authority had hired the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) in January this year to survey the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway to make it safe and smooth for motorists. One of the suggestions by the CRRI was to remove the top layer and before resurfacing the road.
“We are satisfied with the resurfacing done via the “hot in-place” method on a few stretches of the Noida Expressway on pilot project basis. We will also do it on internal roads, where the level of the roads have gone up since the time Noida was developed,” Aggarwal said.
The authority had decided to hire the CRRI after residents had complained that the resurfacing of the roads done once or twice a year had increase the surface level, and that the continuous increase in the surface level means the level of houses or other premises, including drains, goes down.
“The premises which include houses, industrial units or other structures witness water logging because these structures continue to go lower because the road level keeps going up. We are happy with the new method because we can’t keep increasing road level as it naturally keeps the level of houses in a locality down,” SP Singh, a resident of Sector 52, said.
