'Nobody knows more than me' - Brendan Rodgers makes Liverpool claim after Leicester injury confirmed

Brendan Rodgers insists that his Leicester City side has the perfect opportunity to bounce back from their Boxing Day defeat against Newcastle when the Foxes visit Liverpool on Friday.

But the former Reds manager says his players must have 'belief' if they are to get a result at Anfield.

Leicester's recent good league form was punctured on Monday when Eddie Howe's Magpies dished out a 3-0 trashing at the King Power Stadium, with all three goals coming in the opening 32 minutes. And with Liverpool having now won on their last three Premier League outings, Rodgers is well aware of the daunting task his players will face on Merseyside under the floodlights.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: "I think the first 20 minutes of a game at Anfield are always very important. With the crowd and intensity of which a Liverpool team will want to play, that's important, that resilience and mentality. You need that ability if you do go behind to have that belief. I think in any game of football there's two games - the game itself and before that the game of belief.

"You always believe when you step onto the field, especially against some of the big teams away from home, you need to have that belief and mentality that you can get a result. For us, we've got a great opportunity going to a great stadium to play football in and look to see if we can replicate that belief and spirit last time we played."

"It's always a difficult game and nobody knows that more than myself at Anfield - but it's a great challenge for us. (Newcastle) was disappointing, like I say, but challenges are there to be overcome and there's a great opportunity for us to get out there in a fantastic game."

Rodgers confirmed that the Foxes will be without England international James Maddison, who has picked up another knee injury and will now see a specialist in London. They will also have midfielder Dennis Praet missing after a side injury forced him off against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

A win for Liverpool would see them close the gap on fifth-placed Manchester United to just a point, before Erik ten Hag's side visit Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
