American YouTuber IShowSpeed was left heartbroken for a third time after discovering that former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo was not in Portugal's starting XI for their round-of-16 World Cup clash with Switzerland.
IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., tweeted to his 1.4million followers that he was gutted after it was confirmed that Ronaldo had been dropped for his country's vital knockout match.
Fernando Santos made the shock decision to drop the former United man in the wake of his behaviour during Portugal's defeat to South Korea in their final group game. As the 37-year-old walked off the pitch, he was visibly frustrated at being brought off, appearing to swear at one of the opposition players on his way to the touchline.
Santos was far from pleased with what he saw, as he made his feelings clear when he was asked about the incident after the match.
He said: "Have I seen the images? Yes, I didn’t like it, not at all. I didn’t like it. I really didn’t like it. But from that moment onwards everything is finished regarding that issue. These matters are resolved behind closed doors. It’s resolved. Full stop on this matter and now everyone is focused on tomorrow’s match."
Ronaldo's actions meant that he was named on the bench for the crucial tie against the Swiss, much to IShowSpeed's disappointment. He took to Twitter as the news filtered through, saying: "No way Ronaldo is on the bench."
He then later added: "Flew all the way to Qatar bro, no way they benched my idol."
This is not the first time that he has failed to watch his hero, with the teenager also travelling to United's matches against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup and Fulham in the Premier League before the World Cup break.
Ronaldo was absent from the matchday squads on both occasions, before his contract was eventually terminated at Old Trafford in the wake of his criticism of the club during his explosive interview with Piers Morgan - as the YouTube sensation continues in his pursuit of one day meeting the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
