No way Steelers HC Mike Tomlin leaves after disappointing finish to 2023

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers season came to an end like so many before it. With a playoff loss after struggling to get through the season.   Another season finishing .500 or better but needing every bit of luck to do it. This has been the career of head coach Mike Tomlin for much of his 17 seasons and on Monday evening, when he spoke to the media after their 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills, you could see how it weighed on him.

But this isn’t a situation where the burden of not taking this team back to the Super Bowl is going to push Tomlin away with a year left on his contract. Quite the contrary. If anything, what we saw from Tomlin on Monday and throughout the second half of the season, tells me he’s ready to make some real changes and not hoping for a new outcome from doing the same thing.

I would be absolutely floored if an announcement came out that the Steelers were parting ways with Tomlin. It’s going to be business as usual and with a long list of offseason tasks starting with hiring an offensive coordinator and sorting out the quarterback position going forward. For better or worse, expect Tomlin back for 2024 and even potentially a contract extension before the start of the season.
