SCOTRAIL has said people should not expect any trains to run before 12pm on Saturday as Storm Eowyn continues to wreak havoc.
Bosses have said "significant damage" has been caused to the railway as a result of extremely high winds.
Staff will not be able to assess the full extent of the damage until the storm has passed but Network Rail has been posting several pictures throughout the day of trees blocking lines and damaging overhead wires.
A statement on Twitter/X said: "The impact of Storm Éowyn is being felt across Scotland’s Railway, with extremely high winds causing significant damage to infrastructure throughout the country.
"We won't know the full extent of the damage until after the storm passes and our Network Rail colleagues can get onto the network and carry out a fully assessment. This will obviously take quite a bit of time.
"Our colleagues at Network Rail Scotland will be working flat out through the night to remove fallen trees and other debris from the tracks. There has also been extensive damage to overhead lines which will need to be repaired before trains can safely return to service.
"Unfortunately, this means that ScotRail services will be heavily impacted tomorrow (Saturday), and customers should not expect any trains to operate before 12.00 at the earliest."

ScotRail has stressed it will only run trains when it is safe to do so and the website will be kept up-to-date with the latest information.
Large portions of Scotland will remain under a rare red weather warning for wind until 5pm on Friday.
There is then an amber warning in place until 6am on Saturday.
Bridges including the Erskine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge have been shut amid the horrendous conditions.
An 100mph gust was recorded at Drumalbin at around 2.15pm.
