Transport for Wales has announced that their Valleys rail service will not be running this week as they complete engineering work on the railway line for the new South Wales Metro.
The impacted railway lines are Cardiff Central to Pontypridd and Cardiff Central to Radyr via the City Line from Tuesday, September 20 to Friday, September 23. The rail line between Radyr to Pontypridd will also be closed all day on Saturday, September 24 to Sunday, September 25 as they complete further work on the line.
Transport for Wales said buses will replace the trains all day during the engineering work for the South Wales Metro, but it has already left commuters late for work this morning. One person estimated that 150 were waiting for a replacement bus at Pontypridd Station and complained that people could lose their jobs if public transport continues to make them late without warning.

Another person tweeted: "Just been ejected from the Aberdare to Cardiff train at Pontypridd, having been told there’d be replacement buses waiting. There weren’t. 10 minutes later, a single minibus arrives. There are over a hundred of us here, needing to get to work."
While one person said: "All of the trains in and out of Cardiff are suspended till Friday and the buses take over an hour to get to Treforest, so I guess I'm not attending any induction events until Thursday."
The South Wales Metro network is a multi-million-pound transport upgrade project expected to reach fruition in 2023. The Metro is the electrification of the Core Valley Lines (from Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr and Rhymney into Cardiff), as well as the Coryton and City Lines through the capital down to Cardiff Bay.
