No takers for Perthshire village post office

Community representatives have been advised a former Perthshire village post office that was forced to close last year will remain shut following a fruitless search for a new operator.

The Post Office has told Luncarty, Redgorton and Moneydie Community Council it is has been unable to find anyone willing to run the former Luncarty branch which used to provide services at the Spar store on the village’s Marshall Way.

The company said in correspondence the community council published on social media last week, that it would need to see “significant changes in the area” to revisit its decision to keep the branch shut for the time being.

“As you may be aware, the [Luncarty] Post Office closed last year following the resignation of the operator of the partner service and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use,” the correspondence said.

“Since then we have been exploring our options for restoring a Post Office service to our customers in the area.

“The vacancy in Luncarty has been advertised on our website and a member of the field team has also personally visited the area.

“Unfortunately, we have therefore been unable to identify a suitable solution and I’m writing to you and other local representatives to advise you that as there have been no suitable opportunities to re-establish a service, this branch will remain closed.

“We would, of course, consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future.

“However due to the length of time the branch has been closed, we would need to satisfy ourselves that any new opportunity would be sustainable for both Post Office Ltd and the operator.”
