The death of a person whose body was discovered in a Stockport park is not being treated as suspicious, it has been confirmed. The grim discovery was made in Vernon Park, east of Stockport town centre on Monday evening.
A body was recovered from the water at the park which borders the River Goyt. No further details about the deceased - including their age or gender - have yet been revealed.
However, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have this afternoon confirmed there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A report is being prepared for the coroner, the force added.

Earlier, they said: "At around 5.10pm on Monday March 14, 2022, we were called by the fire and rescue service responding to an incident in Vernon Park, Stockport.
"Officers attended and a body was recovered from the water.
"Enquiries are ongoing. "
A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) confirmed they were called to the scene, on Monday evening but did not take anyone to hospital.
A police cordon remained in place at the park, which also neighbours Bredbury and Offerton. this morning. One local resident said she visited at 7.45am to find police' all over' the park.
She said officers were too far away to communicate with but described seeing emergency services 'everywhere' from yesterday evening at around 6pm.
There were also eyewitness reports of divers being seen in the river.
The path cordoned off by police was already gated off and the park remained fully open this morning.
