There’s no revenge game on deck for Russell Wilson today.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced their list of inactive players for Sunday’s showdown with the Denver Broncos and Wilson (calf) is on the list. Wilson will still dress as the team’s emergency third-string quarterback behind fill-in starter Justin Fields and backup Kyle Allen.
Wilson also sat out last week’s game and Fields went 17-of-23 passing for 156 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in an 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Fields also rushed 14 times for 57 yards in Week 1.
Wilson, 35, played for the Broncos from 2022-2023. He went 11-19 as a starter and was sacked 100 times in 30 games before being released by coach Sean Payton this spring.
Payton’s decision to part with Wilson created the largest dead money cap hit in NFL history ($53 million). Wilson undoubtedly wants to prove that Payton made a mistake, but the QB won’t get an opportunity to do so today (barring injuries to both Fields and Allen).
The Broncos’ game against the Steelers will be regionally televised on CBS. Denver is considered a betting underdog despite playing at home.
