No request from A.P. for including BCs omitted in Central list, says Union Minister

The Andhra Pradesh government has neither recommended nor made a request for including any backward classes (BCs) omitted in the Central list for reservations in Central government jobs and educational institutions, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar said in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

He was replying to a question by BJP MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao on the reasons for the non-inclusion of 39 castes in the Central list and reasons for pendency with the Central government.

In a release, Mr. Narasimha Rao said 146 castes were included in the State list of socially and educationally backward classes (BCs) in Andhra Pradesh. However, in the Central list of OBCs for reservation in Central government jobs and educational institutions, only 107 castes were included.

The MP quoted Mr. Virendra Kumar as saying in the Rajya Sabha that there was no pendency with the Central government for the inclusion of any backward class in the Central list of the OBCs as the State government had not made any such request.

“The lack of sensitivity of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) governments has deprived 39 OBCs of the benefits of reservations in the Central government jobs and central educational institutions,” observed Mr. Narasimha Rao.

Turpu Kapus

The BJP MP further said that ‘Turpu Kapus’ had been identified as BCs in the Central list only in three north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.

“The State government has not sent any proposal to the Centre seeking reservations in the Central list to Turpu Kapus in all districts of Andhra Pradesh. I will take up the matter with the Union Minister concerned,” the MP mentioned in the release.
