No regrets about staying at Leicester, says Arsenal target Youri Tielemans

Youri Tielemans insists he does not regret staying at Leicester City despite their struggles.

Arsenal hold a long-term interest in the midfielder but chose to make a late bid for Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz instead, leaving Tielemans in limbo.

The 25-year-old has entered the final year of his contract in the East Midlands and was linked with a move away for much of the summer but offers proved few and far between.

Tielemans was one of a number of key Leicester players who proved the subject of much speculation throughout the summer, with Wesley Fofana leaving for Chelsea and James Maddison linked with both Tottenham and Newcastle.

Brendan Rodgers was only able to bring in two players and has seen his side struggle this season, losing six of their seven games, rooted to the bottom of the table as a result.

Tielemans, however, insists he has no regrets despite such a poor start to the campaign.

"I’m happy to get a bit of fresh air here because it’s tough at Leicester right now," he told reporters on Monday while away on international duty.

"It’s clear that things are not going well at the club. We are doing everything we can as a team. At Leicester, the consecutive defeats have affected us as a group. We need to benefit from this break to recharge our batteries ...

"I didn’t leave Leicester in the summer as I always said the project had to be the right one. Just because things are getting worse now at Leicester doesn’t mean I should regret (staying)."
