'No-one else gets close' - Rio Ferdinand makes blunt Liverpool admission after fresh transfer claim

Rio Ferdinand believes that although Liverpool will challenge Man City for the Premier League title this season – they will ultimately end up coming up short against Pep Guardiola’s side.

In the past five seasons, City have claimed the Premier League title on four occasions, while Jurgen Klopp's Reds have won it once, back in 2020, ending a 30-year wait for a league championship.

The two teams met in the Community Shield on Saturday at Leicester City’s King Power – with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez both scoring as Liverpool won 3-1.

Tottenham Hotspur have spent just over £90m as they look to improve on their points haul from last season, while Arsenal and Chelsea have also strengthened with the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, respectively.

But despite the transfer activity of all three clubs, Ferdinand still believes this season’s title race will be a two-horse one between City and the Reds, with the Etihad club coming out on top.

“Liverpool have got a chance. It’s them two (Liverpool and City). No-one else gets close to them two again I don’t think. I still think there are six, eight points between second and third,” he told FootballJOE.

“If someone like Spurs make that gap up — it’s a huge, huge, huge gap to make up — they’ll be doing something to make that. Liverpool and City, I think will be a two-horse race. I think City win it.”
