'No need' - Pundit makes Jamie Vardy comparison with Brennan Johnson

Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson's future was a hot topic of discussion for Colin Murray and Dean Ashton on EFL on Quest - but former England man Ashton had a word of warning for the talented youngster.

Johnson was one of the star performers for Steve Cooper's side as they gained ground on the Championship play-off spots with a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Goals from him and James Garner secured the three points for Forest, lifting them to three points of the league's top-six.

And after yet another impressive performance against the Robins, the EFL on Quest duo were in agreement that Johnson will almost certainly be plying his trade in the Premier League next season - although Ashton did have a word of warning for the young star.

"I'm sure he will [be playing in the top-tier], said Ashton. "He's such a talented payer."

Speaking over a clip of Johnson going down under a tackle in the penalty area, Ashton added: "I don't like to see this though. He's been watching too much of Jamie Vardy. Sticking that right leg out trying to win a penalty, there's no need to do it.

"He's such a talent and he proves he doesn't need to do that. He puts his foot over the ball here, jinks inside, a little deflection but it doesn't matter because he's done the hard work in shifting the defender.

"He's a fantastic player aged only 20 and that's five goals in his last seven games."

Johnson's current terms at the City Ground expire this summer, but conversations about a new deal have been held between Johnson and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
