Developer Hello Games just released a new Halloween-themed event for No Man's Sky, The Cursed expedition.
The studio said that Expedition 16 is where players will have to fight in order to maintain reality while also being haunted by visions and voices from another dimension.
The latest expedition is set in a sort of twilight realm that straddles the boundary between more than one reality.
No Man's Sky's The Cursed Expedition
Another noteworthy feature in The Cursed Expedition is that travellers will not have access to hyperdrive technology. This means that you will not be able to warp between star systems. You will instead be able to perform interstellar travel via the ancient portal network.
Hello Games said that the haunting voices you hear that are leaking from another dimension will provide guidance, information, and strange blueprints.
All of these combine to form a giant mystery that forces you to try and determine the source of the voices and if they can be trusted, according to Gematsu.
While playing normally, you will have to find the courage to face various environmental hazards.
These include extreme temperatures, radioactivity, and toxic atmospheres. The Cursed will force you to face another dangerous threat, which is the weakening of the boundaries of reality.
In this new expedition, a player's exosuit will come fitted with a specialized Anomaly Suppressor that is needed so that you can stay within this reality. Spectral anomalies are ghostly creatures that drift across the boundaries of realities to gather and watch Travellers.
What To Expect
On top of these, the new The Cursed expedition introduces a new hub known as the boundary StarShip. A blog post by the developer noted that this takes artistic inspiration from the works of H.R. Giger, The Verge said.
The new expedition is expected to run for three weeks and Hello Games noted that the enemies and bosses in The Cursed are at a scale that has never been seen in No Man's Sky before. If you complete various milestone objectives during The Cursed expedition, you can get various rewards.
These include unlocking a range of exclusive stuff, such as a Cthulhu-esque Horror Exosuit customization. Other items that you can get are bioluminescent pets as well as your very own UFO-like Boundary Herald StarShip.
Hello Games also confirmed that there will be more coming to No Man's Sky in the coming weeks. These would include several more surprises that players should keep a lookout for, according to Eurogamer.
