No Man's Sky Starship Customization Guide: What You Should Know

This No Man's Sky guide helps players know how to create their own custom ship and how to get the necessary items to build one. (Credit: Steam, Hello Games)

No Man's Sky is Hello Games' ambitious sci-fi, open-world space exploration game that features a ton of features, including the option to customize your own Starship however you like.

Following the game's Orbital update, players were finally allowed to create their own custom ships, which is something that travelers have long been asking for. Fortunately, the process of making your own custom ship is relatively simple.

The first thing you need to do is salvage components from existing ships that you can use in building your own. Next, you need to buy a reactor core from the ship technology merchant and lastly, you need to go to the Starship Fabricator to create a brand-new ship.

On top of this, you can also give your custom ship its very own paint job either in matte or metallic colors. In this guide, we'll help players understand the ins and outs of getting everything they need to create their own custom ship, according to The Gamer.

Salvaging Customization Modules

The first step in making your own custom ship in No Man's Sky is to salvage the components that are needed.

There are two main ways that you can get the necessary items, either by buying the ship from other entities or finding crashed ships on planetary surfaces.

Then, go to the nearest space station and look for the Starship Outfitting terminal near the station core.

This is where you previously upgraded ships using nanites or scrapped them for credits. Here is where you perform a "salvage analysis" to see what customization modules you can get, said Destructoid.

Getting a Reactor Core

Reactor cores are unique among ship parts because they can be bought directly at any Space Station in No Man's Sky.

You can simply head to the Ship Technology Merchant and purchase any of the reactors from any tier in exchange for nanites. Another way to get these is by finishing Nexus Missions.

When you finally get everything you need, you can travel to the Starship Fabricator on any Space Station and build your own custom ship.

When you select an empty slot, it will display all appropriate ship parts with parts that you currently have in your inventory moved to the top of the list, according to GameRant.

The first step is choosing which type you prefer and options include Fighter, Explorer, Hauler, and Solar Ship. You then choose three customization modules to use as well as a reactor core. After that, you will be able to choose your ship's colors.
