'No jibe at all' - Todd Cantwell defends Celtic vs Rangers post-match remarks

Todd Cantwell has defended his social media remarks after Rangers' loss to Celtic as he insisted there was no hidden slight in his comment.

The Ibrox midfielder had urged supporters to stick together after the 3-2 loss at Celtic Park as he shared his disappointment at the result.

Cantwell had posted on his personal Instagram account: “The disappointment is real. We lost the game, they didn’t win it.

"We continue to stick together and build in the right direction.

"This is a project and an exciting one. Stick together as one.”

His comments were then misinterpreted as a "jibe" - something Cantwell quickly moved to correct.

Quote tweeting an article reporting his comments, the January transfer stated: "No jibe at all, always respect your opponent’s. [sic]"

Cantwell started in the derby clash at Parkhead but was subbed off in the 86th minute as Michael Beale's side chased a late leveller.

Celtic had taken the lead in the 26th minute when Kyogo Furuhashi fired past Allan McGregor. A stunning James Tavernier free-kick then levelled the score before the break.

Kyogo scored his second of the match on 62 minutes after a Ben Davies mistake before a slack backpass allowed Jota to round McGregor and score a third.

Ibrox captain Tavernier reduced the deficit with 12 minutes left through a header but Beale's men couldn't find an equaliser in the closing stages.
