'No hard feelings' - Ian Evatt wishes Fulham's Marlon Fossey well as Bolton Wanderers move on

Ian Evatt has stressed there no hard feelings whatsoever between Bolton Wanderers and Marlon Fossey as he wished the former loanee well for the future after the Whites ended their interest in bringing the defenfer back to the club.

The 23-year-old Fulham defender spent part of the second half of the season on loan at Wanderers from newly promoted Premier League side Fulham. Fossey played 16 times and scored once after moving to the club at the start of January in an impressive spell that was cut short owing to injury.

Wanderers and Ian Evatt had previously made no secret of the fact that would have liked to have signed the wing-back this summer. Fossey has a year left on his contract with the Cottagers.

However, Wanderers have since ended their pursuit of the wing-back owing to interest emerging from the Championship. The club has subsequently moved on and signed Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley on loan for the upcoming campaign.

Though the ship has now sailed on a return to Wanderers, Fossey has taken to social media to deny suggestions he is about to sign for Championship side Rotherham United. It comes after he had people congratulating on him on a transfer which does not appear to be taking place.

Though it is not definitive where Fossey will be playing his football next season, Evatt insists the dialogue between both him and the wing-back have been honest and transparent. Though Wanderers have now gone in a different direction, Evatt wishes his former loanee well for wherever he ends up.

“There are absolutely no hard feelings, and I have had conversations with Marlon this summer and everything has been transparent and honest. He respects that, and we respect him hugely.

“It wasn’t meant to be but I believe nothing you are destined for will ever pass you by. It hasn’t worked out for Marlon this summer but I honestly wish him good luck and I hope he does well.

“From our perspective, though, I am happy to be signing Conor and I am sure the supporters will see very quickly what an excellent player he is. As much as Marlon became an iconic figure in our squad, I do believe Conor will do the same.

“We move on, things move on in football."
