Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew doesn't expect Sydney will be dwelling on their AFL grand final loss when they lock horns in round one.
Dew, a former Swans assistant, has won four of six games against last year's beaten finalists since taking over in 2018.
There's no secret to it though, Dew arguing that any "good feeling" generated by the match-up was one the improved side now possesses against any rival.
And as for the narrative that a beaten grand finalist becomes an easy kill the following season?
"I'm not expecting a hangover," he said.
"They're not a footy club that dwells on the past and they've kept fronting up.
"When your footy club is at the pointy end of questions like, 'Are they going to bounce back from a final or a prelim?', it's a pretty good position to be in."
The Suns beat the Swans by 14 points at the SCG in their last meeting, the third time from four visits to the venue under Dew.
They've also beaten them by 40 points at their Carrara home ground, now known as Heritage Bank Stadium that will play host on Saturday night.
But an 87-point loss in Melbourne last year shouldn't be forgotten.
"We have (done well) a couple of times, but they also not so long ago gave us a nice smacking," he said.
"If you don't bring your game you're in for a long day.
"It's never simple and where we are at now, the feel is that we have a good feeling going into all games.
"Our challenge is to deliver that consistently ... history is a good talking point but not a precursor of what's to come."
Dew confirmed key forward Ben King was set to return from a knee injury that kept him out of last season.
The coach said he was still undecided on the make-up of the forward line, with Joel Jeffrey looming as the unlucky tall forward to miss out behind Levi Casboult and Mabiol Chol.
