‘No friendly match’ - Patrice Evra furious after Manchester United legends lose charity game

Patrice Evra has called out former Manchester United teammates for their absence in the club’s charity game loss to Liverpool.

Heroes and legends took to the Old Trafford turf to face former foes in Saturday’s match that raised £1.3million for the Manchester United Foundation. The likes of Gary Neville, Jaap Stam and Dimitar Berbatov were on show, but they couldn’t prevent their side falling to a 3-1 defeat.

A number of players scheduled to appear in the match had to withdraw. Paul Scholes and Dwight Yorke couldn’t make it while Diego Forlan’s flight over to England got cancelled meaning he also missed out.

Champions League winner Evra did make it to Manchester, though, and was unexpectedly scathing about those who did not feature in the exhibition at full-time. The former France international said he was "angry" at the defeat and how he believed Manchester United versus Liverpool is “no friendly match”, questioning why more of United's UK-based former players didn't sign up to play.

Speaking to MUTV, he said: "I'm sorry for the fans. I know it's a charity game, but there is a rivalry between the two clubs. There is no friendly match.

"Where are the English players? I live in Dubai. I came from there. When Man Utd call, you answer.

"I think more legends should be here today. When United calls you, you have to be there."

Berbatov converted from the spot for United’s only goal of the day as a Luis Garcia striker and a brace from Mark Gonzalez saw Liverpool take the win.
