'No better striker!' - Manchester United fans make new Victor Osimhen transfer demand

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen sparked fresh calls from numerous Manchester United fans for the club to try and sign him next year after scoring the winner in Sunday night's clash with Roma.

The Nigerian netted the only goal of the game, firing home from an acute angle ten minutes from time to seal a 1-0 win and stretch Napoli's winning run to 11 matches in all competitions. It also moved them to the top of the Serie A table following AC Milan's 4-1 win over Monza a day earlier.

Osimhen, who was heavily linked with a move to United during the summer transfer window, ahead of putting pen to paper on a new deal in Naples, has scored five goals in nine appearances so far this season, meaning he has picked up where he left off last term. The speedy forward scored 18 goals in 32 matches last season, as well as chipping in with six assists.

Such is the situation concerning Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford and United's desperate need to add a new striker to their squad in the next phase of their rebuild, Osimhen is a name attracting plenty of attention among the fans. He has gone from strength-to-strength since joining Napoli from French outfit Lille in July 2020.

Furthermore, Osimhen, whose goal ended Jose Mourinho's Roma's three-game unbeaten run, fits the profile of a striker United manager Erik ten Hag is likely to be interested in, in the sense that he is quick and mobile, fitting his preferred system of having a fluid front-three. And after scoring the winner against Roma on Sunday evening, United supporters stepped up their demand to see the club attempt to try and sign him in 2023.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what the supporters have had to say:

Despite several United fans dreaming of seeing Osimhen added to the squad, the striker's agent, Roberto Calenda, last week, issued an update on his future, confirming that his client has no immediate plans to leave Napoli.

"We haven't found out now that Osimhen is the subject of interest from so many teams, but things are done in three: who sells, who buys and the player," Calenda told Radio Kiss Kiss. "I was immediately clear this summer because I knew there would be a lot of news coming out from those who had other interests perhaps. But I, the boy and Napoli had very clear ideas.

"Whoever talked about a departure made a mistake. It was Victor's will to stay at Napoli and play the Champions League that he won entry to last year together with his teammates.

"Victor wanted exactly that, to have a great year with Napoli, between the league and the Champions League. He has a long contract with the Azzurri. The market is dynamic, but our will is to continue at Napoli and continue to do well."
