Nistelrooy Shares Whether Liverpool Could Win the Title in 2024-25

Manchester United legend and Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has said Liverpool have a great chance of winning the Premier League title this season.

Arne Slot’s in-form Liverpool took another step towards the Premier League championship on Boxing Day, as they claimed a comfortable 3-1 victory over Nistelrooy’s Leicester City at Anfield Stadium.

Jordan Ayew fired the visitors into a shock lead early in the game, putting pressure on the hosts. Slot’s men, however, did not panic and eventually took control of the game. Cody Gakpo scored the equalizer for Liverpool in the first half injury time before Curtis Jones (49′) and Mohamed Salah (82′) took the game away from the Foxes.

With second-placed Chelsea losing 2-1 to Fulham on Boxing Day, Liverpool opened up a seven-point lead over the Blues at the top of the Premier League rankings, with a game in hand.

Ruud van Nistelrooy Thinks Liverpool Have a Great Chance of Winning the Premier League

Speaking to the press after the game, former Manchester United striker and interim manager Nistelrooy shared whether Liverpool could win the Premier League this season.

You never know in the Premier League and many things have happened before,” said Nistelrooy (via BBC).

But looking at this team and how stable they are and the depth of their squad they have a great chance.

While Nistelrooy thought Liverpool had a great shot, Slot refused to get swept up by the title talk just halfway through the campaign.

When asked if the title was Liverpool’s to lose, Slot told Sky Sports:

I don’t look at it that way.

It’s bit of a boring answer, but as a manager, you go game by game because you know how many games you still have to play. And you see especially in the Premier League results that you didn’t expect because teams have so much quality.”

Liverpool have amassed 42 points from 17 Premier League matches so far, winning 13, drawing three, and losing just one. They are on a whopping 22-game unbeaten run in all competitions, emerging as the most in-form team on the continent.

The Merseyside outfit will return to Premier League action with a clash against West Ham United on Sunday, 29th December.
