Although Black Friday is still days away, retailers are rolling out some unbelievably amazing deals already – including this one on the Nintendo Switch OLED which sees the console drop to its lowest-ever price.
The Nintendo Switch OLED is the premium version of the Nintendo Switch and the newest iteration of the hardware – making it the most expensive. The console usually retails at £309.99 / $349.99 / AU $539.95 but the UK is seeing a record price drop that brings it down to just £269.99. That's 23% off!
The OLED model launched just last year, and with the original Nintendo Switch still on the market alongside the Nintendo Switch Lite, we were unsure if we'd see much of a reduction on the hardware. Bear in mind that this isn't an official price cut, like the Black Friday Xbox discount Microsoft announced last week.
To put that into perspective, the refreshed Nintendo Switch model – which released a few years after the original, boasting a better battery life and a handful of other minor improvements – is selling for £259.99 at Smyths. For just a tenner more, you can buy OLED model that sports a ton of meaningful upgrades, over the refreshed version.
The main difference is, of course, the OLED panel. The larger, 7-inch screen offers with much more vivid colours and the perfect black levels you'd expect from an OLED display. The Switch's 6-inch LCD screen just can't compete. You're also getting more storage, with the Nintendo Switch OLED giving you 64GB over the Switch's 32GB.
There's also the enhanced audio of the OLED's speakers, so if you don't fancy wearing headphones, you don't have to worry about the sound being distorted – even when you crank it up to full volume.
The Joy-Cons are compatible across the Nintendo Switch OLED and Nintendo Switch models too. So you've got yourself an extra pair if you already own one Switch and buy the OLED. And if the white and black colourway isn't your cup of tea, you can rest easy knowing that any Joy-Cons you already own, or colourful sets you have your eye on, will work seamlessly with the Nintendo Switch OLED.
Given the comparable price between the two models right now, and factoring in the absolute bargain that this Smyths deal is, you should pull the trigger if you've been waiting to make the jump – or looking for an excuse to splash out.
We often see unbeatable Nintendo Switch deals around Black Friday, and this one is no different. And I doubt you'll find it cheaper until next year rolls around.
