A new leak for the Nintendo Switch 2 suggests that the new console will be launching alongside Mario Kart 9 in the near future.

The leaker, who is apparently a trusted individual by the moderators at the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit, talked about the latest rumors. The situation comes as the Nintendo Switch console has sold more than 150 million units since it was released in 2016.

Nintendo Switch 2 Leak

This makes it the Japanese company's best-selling platform in history, and what makes this even more noteworthy is that the console has not received that many updates. The main new thing about it is the release of an OLED version in 2021.

Since the Nintendo Switch has not had a successor for quite some time, it is Nintendo's longest-running console of all time. But rumors of the console's successor have been spreading online for quite some time now.

The latest news comes from a leaker who claimed that they have a final retail version of the Nintendo Switch 2. They opened a thread on Reddit for an "Ask Me Anything" ession to give fans more information about the console, according to The Drive.

Despite the supposed claim, the leaker made one rule, which was that people were not allowed to ask for proof-of-life photos. These kinds of rumors typically have a hard time passing any sort of scrutiny.

But this time around, the post is still up on Reddit after the leaker supposedly shared some "evidence" with one of the subreddit's moderators.

The latter also noted that the original poster could only answer people's questions regarding the hardware because they have not yet turned the console on to try it out.

Mario Kart Franchise

The potential arrival of Mario Kart 9 comes as Mario Kart 8 was released a decade ago. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came out in 2017, and Mario Kart Tour was put out in 2019.

Another noteworthy entry in the franchise is Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which was released in 2020, Comic Book said.

The latest rumor also comes from Nintendo not having mentioned Mario Kart 9 whatsoever. However, Nintendo insider Samus Hunter claims that the latest entry in the racing franchise will not be coming out at the same time as the Nintendo Switch 2.

They did not specify whether Mario Kart 9 is slated for a 2025 release, and the lack of information suggests that the game's release date is still not confirmed internally.

The popularity of the racing franchise is showcased with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still selling millions in recent years, according to IGN.
