Nintendo President Looks at Possible Switch 2 Price Increase Due to Trump's Tariffs

The upcoming next-gen console from Nintendo may experience a potential price increase, and the company's president is looking into the matter as there are growing concerns for the Switch 2. It is widely known that United States President Donald J. Trump has imposed import tariffs on foreign goods, especially those that have been manufactured or created in China.

One of the Nintendo Switch 2's manufacturing origins in China, and although manufacturing is not exclusive to the country, it may be subject to the said tariffs if it is sold in the United States.

Should this be the case, Trump's tariffs may affect its pricing.

Nintendo President Looks Into Switch 2 Price Increase

GameRant reported that Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has recently shared that the company is now looking into the possibility of increasing the price of the Switch 2 in the United States once it is released.

As per Furukawa's statement (via Reuters), the company is acknowledging that there will be a certain impact on the Switch 2's pricing and sale because of Trump's tariffs.

To date, there is still no official pricing for the Switch 2's release in the United States, but previous reports claimed that it would either have no increases or only a minimal one once it arrives.

The original Switch sold for $349.99 in the United States when it was first released, and it was initially expected that the Switch 2 would follow its pricing and range from $350 to $400 once it arrives.

Trump's US Tariffs May Affect Switch 2 Pricing

President Trump has imposed a tariff on products and goods coming China and Hong Kong as China is known for having political tensions with the US.

However, Furukawa clarified that China is not the exclusive manufacturer of the Switch 2 consoles as other Asian countries like Cambodia and Vietnam are also in business with Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Is Coming Soon

The year 2025 has been a good year for gaming, particularly as Nintendo finally confirmed that its Switch 2 console is coming this year. There is already an expected massive demand for the Switch 2, with speculations claiming that Nintendo would be able to sell as much as 20 million units in its first year.

Significant upgrades have made their way to the new Nintendo Switch console as per the latest revelation from the company, and it features a bigger, faster, and more capable gaming machine. However, another one of its selling points is its backward compatibility, and this means that gamers who have bought both physical and digital games would not have to worry about these going to waste.

The Japanese gaming company already set the date for the Switch 2's grand unveiling during a Direct event by April, and it will give clearer answers to the public's nagging questions about the upcoming console.
