The Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon and will have its dedicated Direct event coming soon, but the real question is what games it will feature once it arrives. Many of such speculations revolve a new "Super Smash Bros." title.
While the featured game on the Switch 2's first look trailer last month featured an untitled "Mario Kart," there is still another first-party game that is speculated to be a priority release.
It has been a long time since Nintendo released a new "Super Smash Bros." game, and leakers are adamant that this will also be coming right when the Switch 2 arrives for users.
New 'Super Smash Bros.' Game Release Date Is Close
It was revealed by a report from ComicBook Gaming that the average release period of new "Super Smash Bros." games since they first arrived almost 26 years ago is 4.3 years, but there have been longer waits in the past.
The longest wait for release there has been is the "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" in 2018.
Seven years is a long wait for games, but thanks to the massive experiences from "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" and "Super Mario" franchise's annual titles, it was not that noticeable. That being said, fans still want a new "Super Smash Bros." game which they have requested for a long time from Nintendo and the company has yet to have an answer.
However, it has been speculated that a new "Super Smash Bros." title will be part of the announcements in the Direct event that will reportedly take place in April.
Should a potential "Super Smash Bros." game be announced this year, it does not entail an immediate release date, as it is rumored to be available by 2026.
What to Expect From Nintendo's Direct in April?
The upcoming Nintendo Direct in April will focus on the Switch 2, the company's successor console to its highly successful hybrid gaming device of the same name. Speculators and fans expect that the Switch 2 will not be the only announcement out of this April Direct event as Nintendo is also expected to announce titles that will be playable on the console.
In the Switch 2's trailer, Nintendo showed footage of an unconfirmed "Mario Kart" game, believed to be a sequel to "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe," while a new "Super Smash Bros." is also expected.
Nintendo's Switch 2 Is Right Around the Corner
Nintendo made a surprising announcement that the next-gen console many are expecting is coming possibly this year, and it is set to be one of the top sellers in the market with 20 million projected sales for the Switch 2.
It would not be a problem to sell the Switch 2 if there are only a few first and third-party games available upon launch as it features backward compatibility that allows access to last-gen titles for both physical and digital copies.
