Nineties pop legend Dario G diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer

Nineties pop legend Dario G has been diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer.

The singer announced the sad news to fans on Twitter, explaining that it was "hard to write" but was trying to "stay positive".

Dario G - real name Paul Spencer - shot to the top of the charts in the 90s with hits Sunchyme and Carnival de Paris, the latter of which was released for the 1998 World Cup.

Paul shared that he knows that the news must be "hard to read" but that he will be speaking to doctors next week to discuss the next steps.

He tweeted: "Hard to write this. I’ve just found out that I’ve got stage 4 rectal cancer and a shadow on my liver. That’s damn hard to read too I’m sure. Gonna give it my best shot though.

"Stay positive, cos I am. Always. Seeing the doctors on Friday to discuss the next steps."

His friends and fans flocked to the comments to send their best wishes, with one writing: "I am so so sorry. Sending all my love xx."

While another commented: "I’m stage 4 as well, there’s a great support system for us here on twitter. @FightCRC @CCAlliance and @ThanksCancer have been helpful."

A third wrote: "Some unsolicited advice from someone who has stared into the abyss & is still fighting Stage 4 cancer. Keep going forward. One day at a time. And CANCER HATES JOY. Also, you pick your team. From medical to support teams. Keep the positive and supportive. Remove all negativity."

"I was in **exactly** the same boat three years ago. Still kicking, and living a pretty decent life. Ain't gonna lie: You're probably in for a hard ride. But it can be doable. Drop a line if you think my experience might be useful to you. Keep the faith," another commented.

One added: "Sorry to hear this, I’ve been stage 4 since 2018 - keep positive; it’s hard at first but easier when you have a plan and you can focus on that. Def agree that @ThanksCancer is a good community and find other like minded folks going thru similar x."

Dario G was originally a trio, comprised of members Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer alongside Paul, and was named after manager Dario Gradi. Rosser and Spencer left the group, leaving Paul a solo act.
