Nine Greater Manchester boroughs now have coronavirus infection rates lower than the national average

Nine boroughs in Greater Manchester now have coronavirus infection rates lower than the national average, new figures have revealed.

Just one borough - Tameside - has the highest rate in the region and cases above the average across the nation.

However, coronavirus infection rates are still continuing to fall across all ten of the boroughs.

In Tameside, the rate of infection was 1030.7 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending January 19.

The lowest infection rate is in Stockport, where the rate is 783.5 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 867.1 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 985.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 24,588 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 19.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 10705 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 30 per cent in the last week..

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on January 16, a total of 967 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 166 fewer than the week before, a fall of 21 per cent.

On Tuesday January 18, there were 38 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is 166 fewer than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending January 19, a total of 112 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 11 fewer than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 781,506 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,340 deaths.

Trafford

The trend is down in Trafford, where there were 2062 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 19, which is 631 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 23 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Trafford is 867.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Stockport

Stockport, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 2305 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 19, which is 954 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Stockport is now 783.5 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 29 per cent week-on-week.

Tameside

In Tameside, there were 2341 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 19, which is 698 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 23 per cent.

Oldham

Oldham is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 809.7 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 1924 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 795 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 29 per cent.

Wigan

In Wigan, the number of cases is down by 34 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 829.7 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 2744 positive Covid-19 tests in Wigan in the week ending January 19, which was 1425 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Salford

Salford saw a total of 2218 cases in the week ending January 19, which is 1283 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 37 per cent.

In Salford, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 844.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Bolton

In Bolton, the latest infection rate is 901.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 34 per cent.

A total of 2598 people tested positive for Covid in Bolton over the seven days ending on January 19, which is 1324 fewer than the week before.

Manchester

There was a fall of 31 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending January 19, and the infection rate is now 842.5 cases per 100,000 population.

Manchester recorded 4682 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 2058 fewer than the previous week.

Rochdale

Rochdale recorded 1980 coronavirus cases, which is 1044 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Rochdale is 885.3 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 35 per cent week-on-week.

Bury

There were 1734 positive tests over the last week in Bury, which is 493 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Bury is down by 22 per cent and the latest infection rate is 909.2 cases per 100,000 people.
