There are several flood alerts and one more serious flood warning in place across Wales after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain. The warning is in place from 2am on Wednesday, December 28 to 3pm on the same day and covers a large part of the south of the country including areas like Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.
There are flood alerts in place for a number of waterways and some roads have been closed due to flooding. One lane of the M4 eastbound near J43 was closed on Wednesday morning due to flooding but there was no disruption to traffic. In north Wales, the A499 was also partially blocked in both directions due to flooding.
This afternoon a flood warning was issued for the River Towy, for isolated properties between Llandeilo and Abergwili.
The Met Office has warned that the heavy rain could cause disruption and flooding in parts. The weather warning reads: "A band of rain will move northeastwards across the area during Wednesday. Rain becoming heavy and persistent, particularly over high ground of south Wales and Dartmoor, with a few places likely to get 40 to 60 mm in nine to 12 hours, before clearing during the afternoon."

As part of the yellow weather warning the Met Office has warned that spray and flooding on roads will likely make journey times longer, flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely and power supplies and public transport services could be disrupted.

"A wet day across all of Wales with periods of heavy rain, especially over southern hills. Possibly turning drier later in the afternoon. Becoming windy with gales likely in places. Maximum temperature 11 °C.
Staying showery this evening and overnight, with briefly heavy downpours and hail a possibility. Drier and clearer interludes are also likely. Turning chilly but remaining generally frost free. Windy. Minimum temperature 4 °C."
Thursday, December 29
"A bright and showery day with sunny spells and brief heavy showers with the chance of hail. Windy with gusty winds, perhaps touching gale force in coastal areas. Feeling colder. Maximum temperature 9 °C."
Friday, December 30 to Sunday, December 31
"Staying changeable and generally unsettled with periods of rain, heavy at times, interspersed by brighter and more showery spells. Generally mild but brief colder interludes too. Windy with gales possible."
