Nine arrests at Liverpool v Manchester City after reports of tragedy chanting

Nine men have been arrested following reports of tragedy chanting at the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday.

Merseyside Police confirmed the nine, from Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire, were arrested at Anfield. A 28-year-old man from Prestwich was also arrested on suspicion of common assault. Kian Holt, 19, of Medlar-with-Wesham in Lancashire has been charged with a public order offence under the Football Offence Act 1991, namely tragedy chanting. He is due to appear at Sefton Magistrates Court on 8 January.

The others arrested were a 38-year-old man from Audenshaw, a 32-year-old man from Macclesfield, a 52-year-old man from Denton, a 57-year-old man from Failsworth, a 58-year-old man from Rochdale, a 47-year-old man from Rochdale and a 53-year-old man from Manchester.

Six of the nine arrested have been bailed, two have been discharged for voluntary attendance and one has been charged.
