Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri met as coworkers early on in their hairstyling careers. They shared one thing in common: problem-solving. That tenacity to bring solutions to real-life brought Lee and Capri together as business partners over the last 13 years. Their first business together was Nine Zero One salon which has turned into two locations, the 901 Academy, a luxury shower filter, Raindrops, and a non-profit benefiting cancer survivors, Beyoutiful Foundation.
Lee and Capri have been unstoppable in a world filled with Instagram hair tutorials and their latest addition, In Common, is giving consumers healthy hair within the comfort of their own homes. InCommon is a luxury hair care brand focused on creating better for you products that provide instant results for all hair types. The products include key ingredients such as avocado oil, lavender extract, AHA’s, hyaluronic acid and minerals that strengthen hair without being too harsh.
The pair found it difficult to find products they felt confident in using on their clients in the salon and at home. “We like to say that “healthy hair has no competition,” which is why we’ve created products that provide instant, restorative results. The products actually treat your hair with better-for-you ingredients, where the benefits compound with every application. It’s a unique approach that very much mimics taking a skincare approach to haircare. Each of our In Common Beauty products is powered by our proprietary C3 Custom Care Complex, that forms a flexible shield around each strand to help repair and smooth. You start with Clear Haze Universal Shampoo, which cleanses while being gentle enough to use every day. Once you’ve rinsed that out, apply one of the enhancers as a super serum and then layer the Velvet Cloud Universal Mask on top for extra moisture infusion, then rinse. Together, the system is a triple threat providing moisturization, smoothing, and strengthing while creating strength at the follicle,” explain Lee and Capri on how their products differentiate from those on the market.
Capri also explained that she mostly sees consumers buy hair care products based on what worked for their friends or what they see on Instagram rather than what their hair actually needs. “People are mistreating their hair every day by using products that simply do not work for them. Instead of customizing to their needs they are listening to outside sources that no very little about their hair. For example, many people think the thicker a hair mask is the better it will be, but it actually weighs down your hair and creates product build-up. That’s why we created the Velvet Cloud hair mask that is lightweight yet packs an even better punch than thicker masks on the market,” says Capri.
The In Common launch comes right before the second annual Beyoutiful Day held at the Nine Zero One salon on Melrose Place in Los Angeles. This day was created by Lee and Capri to bring the community together to celebrate cancer patients and survivors through healthy, beautiful hair. On August 18th survivors and fighters will receive free haircuts while all other haircuts will be $150 that is donated to the foundation. In Common is also donating 5% of all sales during the week of Beyoutiful Day (8/18 – 8/24). You can find more information at www.beyoutifulfoundation.com.
