Nikita Mazepin has blasted Haas ' decision to cancel his contract, accusing the team of "completely ignoring" the FIA's ruling on Russian racers.
After a week of intense speculation, Haas announced on Saturday morning that Mazepin had been let go, along with the team's title sponsor Uralkali.
The decision was made in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the resulting sanctions placed upon high-profile Russian both inside and outside the sporting world.
The FIA had decided that Russian racers would be allowed to compete, but under a neutral flag with no reference to their nationality.
Despite that, however, Haas took the decision to part company with Mazepin anyway, leaving them a driver short just two weeks before the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
In his response to the news, the driver expressed his frustration over the decision.
"Dear fans and followers," he wrote. "I am very disappointed to hear that my F1 contract has been terminated.
"While I understand the difficulties, the ruling from the FIA plus my ongoing willingness to accept the conditions proposed in order to continue were completely ignored, and no process was followed in this unilateral step.
"To those who have tried to understand, my eternal thanks.
"I have treasured my time in F1 and genuinely hope we can all be together again in better times."
Mazepin rounded off the statement by adding that he would have "more to say in the coming days".
No news has yet been announced of his replacement, though an announcement is expected soon with so little time before the season opener in Bahrain.
Haas reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi is the favourite to fill the vacant seat, though there are other options for the team.
Antonio Giovinazzi is without a seat having been let go by Alfa Romeo at the end of last season, and could join his fellow Ferrari development driver Schumacher.
Another potential option is Oscar Piastri, who won the F2 championship last year but was not offered a seat in Formula 1.
