Although the late Kobe Bryant was associated with the Los Angeles Lakers, he never forgot his roots.
The five-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist was born in the Philadelphia area, and he spent most of his childhood in the City of Brotherly Love. Throughout his career, he sometimes referenced his hometown, his love of Philly cheesesteaks and his ardent support of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bryant is one of those icons whose memory and spirit will live forever. The fact Nike is still manufacturing his line of sneakers is proof.
Next year, Nike reportedly will re-release the Kobe 4, which came out in 2009. The sneakers have a red, white and blue colorway, which happen to be the colors of the Philadelphia 76ers. They also have a patriotic theme to them; Philly is the birthplace of the United States of America.
