Nike’s After Dark Tour Is Coming To Australia: What To Know About The Women-Only 21.1KM Race

Running at night as a woman isn’t just about getting up and getting your steps in. While you try to remember how to breathe and concentrate on your form, you’re also constantly aware of your safety. Nike understands that.

In fact, the company has had a bunch of global women races, but their new After Dark Tour aims to be something different. It feels like it’s about something bigger — community and empowerment.

Starting April 12, 2025, in Sydney, the tour will be hitting six global cities. We’re talking Sydney, Shanghai, Seoul, Mumbai, Los Angeles, and Mexico City.

Australia’s event will start in Sydney’s Inner West, and go through a specially designed course with immersive experiences so there’s literally no chance you’ll hate this run (even if you forget your headphones, God-forbid).

Social media has been buzzing with women creating their own nighttime run clubs, seeking safety in numbers and Nike’s joining in on the party.

@girlssonthego

we had over 45 girls join us this evening for our first intermediate running group 🤍 running in the evenings as a woman can be really scary & lots of us avoid it all together – but we want to help girls feel confident to run regardless of how dark it is. almost all girls came by themselves & it’s completely free to join us! our intermediate runs are every Thursday at 6pm and we are building from 5km to 10k #liverpool #makingfriendsinliverpool #makingfriendsasadults

Nike Pacific Run Coach Lydia O’Donnell puts it perfectly: “Whether you’re hoping to run your first race, shooting for a PB or looking for an epic night of sport and connection, we’re here to support you holistically.”

The whole event costs $100 and includes everything from race entry to a personal bra fitting, a race bib, t-shirt, and access to an epic post-race celebration with live music, recovery and just a chance to gab to your soon-to-be running besties. Okay, maybe I’d actually stick to running if this was the set up every time.

The 21.1km route is definitely catered for girlies who are seasoned runners, but Nike says “all runners are welcome and encouraged to embrace and celebrate the spirit of the event”.

You need to be at least 16 to join, and if you’re under 18, you’ll need a parent or guardian’s permission. Registration closes February 11, 2025, so don’t sleep on this.

This isn’t just about running. It’s about women reclaiming space, feeling safe, and building a community. The world isn’t always designed with women or our safety in mind, so it’s nice to see Nike stepping up in this way.

Runners can sign up through the Nike Run Club app or afterdarktour.nike.com.
