It is commonly believed that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, but in Nike’s case, it might get you a good deal on some stylish kicks.
Earlier this week, Nike (NKE) -) has rolled out its Refurbished program on its website, allowing for bargain hunting weekend athletes and sneakerheads to save as much as 50% off the original retail price of its popular sneakers.

The Nike Refurbished program was initially offered at selected Nike and Nike Factory Outlet stores starting in April 2021 as an effort to advance its Move to Zero mission, which represents the athletic brand’s efforts to reduce its impact to climate change.
"Nike’s goal is a circular, zero carbon, zero waste future," Nike said in a statement. "While Nike Refurbished footwear is available at select Nike stores, we are also testing offering Nike Refurbished products online to extend the life of authentic Nike product at a value price."
The sneakers on offer by the program are made up of returns, exchanges and shoes with small imperfections. Once a pair of shoes are determined by Nike to be eligible for its Refurbished program, it is expertly cleaned by hand and given one of three condition grades: Like New, Gently Worn, or Slightly Imperfect.

According to Nike, a Like New sneaker is considered to be in “perfect or near-perfect” condition, with no signs of wear. Gently Worn sneakers are ones they consider to be in “great condition,” with visible signs of light wear or small imperfections, while Slightly Imperfect shoes are shoes with no signs of wear, but may have small stains, marks, fading or other visible blemishes.
Nike’s offerings on its refurbished program range from men’s and women’s performance athletic shoes, to lifestyle sneakers like the Air Force 1 and models from its storied Jordan Brand. Due to the meticulous nature of determining individual pairs are in appropriate condition for the program, select sizes and colors in certain models will be available at any given time. However, Nike encourages its customers to check back frequently to find what they are looking for.
The Nike Refurbished program can be accessed on its website. It is currently open to members of the free Nike Member’s program.
