It's every holidaying family's nightmare. You pack the case with everything you need for your stay, then it fails to turn up the other end.
That's what has happened to Lucy Taylor, 33, her partner Adam and their two children after they jetted off for a week in Ibiza.
They boarded a Ryanair flight from Manchester Airport on Thursday (April 14) morning. But when the family touched down in Ibiza, their only suitcase, which had everything in it for the family's trip, including nappies and beakers for the baby, all of the family's toiletries, brand new clothes and headphones, did not land with them, it seems.
Lucy, from Glossop, said they logged the bag as missing at Ibiza Airport but claimed they had since had barely any communication or help from Ryanair, although a spokesperson for the airline said it had not received a bag claim from the family. Lucy said many of the shops in Ibiza were closed with it being the Easter weekend, so the family were struggling to buy essential items.
"We checked in our bag with a person, not at a self check-in", Lucy told the Manchester Evening News . "We got to Ibiza and there weren't that many bags that had been checked-in, probably about 20 cases. Ours was the only one that did not turn up. We're quite well-travelled and we've never had this happen to us before. The chief of Ryanair has been speaking about how long the chaos at Uk airports could last - you can read what he had to say here.
"We put everything in one bag. It's got nappies, toiletries, headphones, everything in there. We told them at Ibiza Airport and we filled in a lost bag report. They said they would get back to us within 15 days and that is it. They said they would contact Manchester Airport but they haven't heard from them yet. When you go on the app and type in the reference number it just says 'searching'."
Lucy added: "We've heard nothing about getting any vouchers to buy things. We haven't even been given a bag of toiletries." She said she had been told by locals in Ibiza that most of the shops would not re-open until Tuesday after the Bank Holiday weekend. The family managed to find a souvenir shop this morning to buy some swimming costumes for the kids.
"We'll just have to wash stuff in the sink but we're not even dressed suitably as it's sunny", Lucy added. "The bag is checked in under my name and they know I have an infant with me. We spent a fortune on clothes for the kids. I just hope it shows up."
A Ryanair spokesperson said: "As our records show that Ms. Taylor has not actually submitted a bag claim, our customer service team has been in touch directly to assist her with making a claim." Passengers can find information on Ryanair's Damaged, Delayed and Lost bags policy here.
A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said baggage was the responsibility of the airline and its appointed handling agent.
