A nightclub has written a “polite notice” to customers warning that if their personal hygiene doesn't meet their standards, they will be asked to leave.
LGBTQ+ club Tiny proclaimed that its staff and customers have the right to be in an environment “where they don’t gag at the smell of your breath or bodily odours”.
The venue says staff will be “supported by management” in asking people to leave the venue, if they believe someone’s body odour is becoming an issue for revellers or staff.
A post on the club’s Facebook page reasoned: “C’mon guys, it’s just decent innit. Please ensure good bodily hygiene when visiting Tiny.”
According to Teesside Live, the Middlesbrough nightclub added: “Our staff and customers have the right to work in an environment where they don’t gip at the smell of your breath or bodily odours.
“If you are old enough to be drinking and visiting clubs and bars, you are old enough to be able to practice good personal hygiene.
“We all have an off-day every now and again where we forget to pop some spray on or whatever. Just ask at the bar,” it continued. “We will try our best to find something to help... But if it becomes a habit..”
“We have instructed our staff that they will be supported by management if they believe that someone is causing discomfort to others,” it added, “then they may ask them to leave. Polite Notice over stay safe.”
“The post was meant in good humour, but it has started to annoy us all a little bit,” a spokesperson for the club added.
“It’s become a bit of a common thing.
“If you are adult enough to go on a night out... we’re not a creche, we don’t want to have to teach people to put spray on or brush their teeth.
“We’ve lost custom because of it, people have left because of the smell.
“We are all about inclusivity. But when our staff’s eyes are watering because of the smell over the bar it’s not good.”
