Nicole Kidman's Vision To Perform With Drag Queen On Stage

Nicole Kidman, left, and Keith Urban arrive at the 57th Annual CMA Awards on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

Nicole Kidman recently revealed her dream of taking to the stage alongside a drag queen to pay homage to her iconic “we make movies better” AMC ad. The Oscar winner expressed her desire during an interview with Elle magazine, where she also graced the cover of the April 2024 Impact Issue.

Kidman reminisced about the behind-the-scenes creation of the 2021 commercial, filmed over a weekend while she was working on the Lucille Ball movie Being the Ricardos. The ad aimed to reignite the love for going to the movies post-COVID-19, with Kidman emphasizing the importance of keeping cinemas alive as a safe haven for her.

The emotional impact of the ad, particularly Kidman's iconic line, has resonated with audiences and showcased her ability to bring depth to her acting work. The revamped version of the ad, released by AMC Theatres, features Kidman enjoying moments from recent blockbusters like Elvis and Avatar: The Way of Water.

The 60-second promo video has gained a cult-like following, inspiring Halloween costumes, spoofs by drag queens and SNL, and even a joke from Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars. Despite the humor, Kidman takes it in stride and remains committed to her role as AMC's spokesperson.

AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron praised the ad for becoming part of the American zeitgeist and confirmed Kidman's continued role as their spokesperson for at least one more year. Kidman's dedication to bringing the magic of cinema back to life is evident in her ongoing collaboration with AMC.
