Nicole Kidman Reveals The Backstory Behind *That* Viral Tom Cruise Divorce Meme

Nicole Kidman has finally revealed the back story of the iconic meme showing her seemingly celebrating her divorce from Tom Cruise — but it turns out, it’s not what we all thought.

For years, the internet has collectively reported that the incredible image — which captures Kidman in a moment of celebration as she walks down a driveway — was captured by paparazzi moments after she signed the divorce papers with the Mission Impossible actor.

Just check out this Reddit post from seven years ago.

Speaking to British GQ, the 57-year-old revealed that the presumed backstory of the 2001 image wasn’t actually correct.

“That’s not true,” she said.

“That was not me. That was from a film. That wasn’t real life. I know that image!”

However, Kidman didn’t specifiy which film it was from.

By no means am I saying she is lying or that this method is foolproof, but I just spent 20 minutes going through Kidman’s IMDb page and I can’t find one image of a film where her hair and aesthetic match her character from 2001 to 2003. The only one that comes close is 1999’s Eyes Wide Shut which she starred in with Tom Cruise. Interesting, no?

Food for thought!!!! (Image 1999 Warner Bros / Getty)

While she was attempting to debunk some memes, Kidman also set the record straight on the 2017 clapping video from the Academy Awards. You know the one, but let me pop a reminder below.

“I had a massive heavy borrowed ring on and it was really painful, and I was scared of wrecking the jewellery,” the Oscar winner said.

“There’s always something behind the actual images that go out there, right?”

Soooo true Miss Girl!!!!!
