Nicole Kidman recently reflected on her experience shooting the 1999 film 'Eyes Wide Shut' alongside her then-husband, Tom Cruise. In a recent interview, Kidman shared insights into working with the late director Stanley Kubrick on the project.
When asked about Kubrick potentially drawing inspiration from their marriage for the film, Kidman acknowledged that he may have been 'mining' their relationship for ideas. She mentioned that Kubrick was interested in exploring the dynamics of relationships, particularly the complexities of triangles, and how one person could feel ganged up on in such scenarios.
Kidman emphasized that despite working closely with Cruise and Kubrick, she never felt ganged up on, attributing it to the different relationships each of them had with the director. She highlighted the unique dynamic she shared with Kubrick, noting his appreciation for women.
During the filming of 'Eyes Wide Shut,' Kidman revealed that she and Cruise shared a trailer due to budget constraints, despite having a home nearby. She recalled moments when Cruise would unwind by playing video games like 'Minesweeper' in the trailer between shoots.
The actress also discussed the extensive work put into a scene that was ultimately cut from the final film. Kidman described the collaborative process between herself, Cruise, and Kubrick in refining the scene through rehearsals and improvisation.
'Eyes Wide Shut' marked Kubrick's final film before his passing in 1999. The movie follows the story of a couple, played by Cruise and Kidman, as they navigate sexual fantasies and a mysterious underground group. Kidman and Cruise, who were married at the time of filming, adopted two children together before their divorce in 2001.
Following her split from Cruise, Kidman married Keith Urban in 2006 and has since had two daughters with him. Cruise, on the other hand, was later married to Katie Holmes and shares a daughter with her. Reports suggest that Cruise is currently estranged from his older children, who chose to follow their father's Scientology beliefs.
