Nicole Kidman has made a rare comment about her marriage to ex-husband Tom Cruise.
The Australian actress, 57, was married to the 62-year-old movie star for more than a decade from 1990 to 2001, and share two children, Isabella, 31 and Connor, 29.
In honour of the 25th anniversary of their film, Eyes Wide Shut, Kidman reflected on their time shooting the psychological drama, and whether filmmaker Stanley Kubrick took advantage of their relationship.
Speaking with the LA Times, the Big Little Lies star reflected: “I suppose he was mining it. There were ideas he was interested in. He’d ask a lot of questions.
“But he had a strong sense of the story he was telling. I do remember him saying, ‘Triangles are hard. You have to tread carefully when it’s a triangle.’
“Because one person could feel ganged up on. But he was aware of that and knew how to manage us.”
Despite their relationship at the time, The Family Affair star explained that it was her gender that led to a different dynamic with Kubrick.
She added: “There’s something about being a woman in that equation, too. And Stanley liked women. He had a different relationship with Tom. They worked more closely together on his character.”
Kidman previously opened up about her and Cruise’s dynamic during the filming process of Eyes Wide Shut, revealing that they were “happily married” at the time.
She told the New York Times in 2020: “We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes.
“We’d rent out a place and go racing at three in the morning. I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I don’t have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I’m not willing to.”
Following her and the Top Gun star’s divorce, Kidman went on to marry country music artist Keith Urban in 2006.
The couple, who make frequent appearances on the red carpet, welcomed two children together, 15-year-old Sunday and Faith, 13.
