Nicole Kidman has sent a message of thanks for the “outpouring of love and kindness” following the death of her mother Janelle Ann Kidman.

The actress, 57, shared pictures and a message from her and her sister Antonia on Instagram, which said: “My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week.

She added: “Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other.”

The Oscar-winning actor included three pictures of her mother in her youth, with two of them featuring Kidman and her sister Antonia.

The actor’s post about her mother was flooded with kind words and condolences. Mulholland Drive star and Kidman’s friend Naomi Watts wrote: “Sending so much love to you both. So sorry for your loss. Your wonderfully spirited mum will be missed by so many. Hopefully, she is now peacefully reunited with your papa xxx love you.”

Musician and actor Lenny Kravitz also sent his thoughts, adding: “My deepest condolences to you and the family. I am blessed to have been in her presence. Rest in power.”

Michelle Pfeiffer commented: “I am so sorry for your loss Nicole. Sending blessings to you and your family.”

Kidman missed out on receiving the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday (September 7) following her mother’s passing.

The actor received the award for her role in Babygirl, Halina Reijn’s erotic thriller in which Kidman stars opposite Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness).

Reijn read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, saying she had flown into Venice, only to find out “shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed.”

“I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina,” the statement continued. “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”

Nicole Kidman won Venice’s Best Actress award for her role opposite Harris Dickinson in ‘Babygirl’ (A24)

Kidman’s representative confirmed Janelle’s death to People magazine, adding that “the family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time.”
