Nicolas Raskin sets sights on Chelsea transfer as Rangers star brands Scottish football an 'intermediate step'

Honest Nicolas Raskin admits he doesn't plan on hanging around at Rangers forever - labelling his move to Ibrox an "intermediate step" before his real long-term goal.

The Belgian playmaker arrived from Standard Liege in January and has already made his mark to become one of the first names on Michael Beale's team sheet. Combative and controlled, he's given the Ibrox side something they have lacked in the middle of the park and already looks good value for the move which will cost them around £1.5million after add-ons. He already looks a sellable asset for Rangers although they will be keen to keep hold of him for as long as they can.

The 21-year-old has long been tipped as one of Belgian football's brightest young talents and has five caps at Under-21 level for his country. He was linked with a move to Chelsea in the past and he admits that's where he ultimately sees himself playing.

Raskin said in an interview: "My ultimate dream is to play in the Premier League with Chelsea. Playing in Scotland struck me as a good intermediate step. But Rangers are still a big name in British football."

He also revealed he knocked back several offers to stay in Belgium before his move to Ibrox. He added: "Before (Rangers) came in for me, I had approaches from Club Brugge and Genk. But I think it would be a mistake for me to play for another club in Belgium, as Standard will always be the club I love most."
