Nicolas Raskin contract ultimatum as Rangers 'wait in the wings' while Standard Liege get tough on midfielder

Contract rebel Nicolas Raskin has reportedly been handed a deadline by Standard Liege over a new deal with Rangers named among clubs monitoring the midfielder.

The 21-year-old had been previously been on the Ibrox radar in the summer when Gio van Bronckhorst and sporting director Ross Wilson were coming up with alternative options should Glen Kamara leave the club, with OSG Nice circling on the final day of the window. In the end a move failed to materialise but reports in Belgium suggest Rangers are weighing up a bid for the Belgium U21 international as he approaches the final six months of his Standard deal.

A move away from Ronny Deila 's side appears to be gathering pace with Serie A side Spezia and Belgian rivals Club Brugge also credited with an interest in the January window. Belgian outlet Le Soir now claim that Standard have set a deadline on talks with the player's representatives of may be forced into a mid-season sale.

The report states that "several representatives" from across Europe have been in touch regarding Raskin's availability. With the club jetting off to Marbella from November 29 to December 9 for a warm weather training camp with league football on hold Standard want to hold talks with Raskin's agent before they arrive in Spain.

Rangers and Spezia are reportedly among the suitors "waiting in the wings" but Standard remain hopeful of agreeing an extension. However, they do not want to allow the enforcer to leave for nothing at the end of the season.
