Actor Nicolas Cage has dashed the hopes of fans eagerly awaiting a third installment in the National Treasure movie series. In a recent interview, Cage unequivocally stated that there will be no National Treasure 3, dispelling persistent rumors surrounding the franchise.
The first two films in the series, released in 2004 and 2007, were commercial successes, grossing hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the movies garnered a loyal fan base.
Following the films, a Disney+ series titled National Treasure: The Edge of History was launched, set in the same universe but unfortunately canceled after one season. While Cage did not make a cameo in the series, fans were treated to appearances by Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel reprising their roles.
Rumors of a third National Treasure movie have persisted for over a decade, with reports as recent as 2020 suggesting that a new installment was in development. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed interest in continuing the franchise, hinting at the possibility of a fourth movie.
Bruckheimer revealed plans to create another National Treasure film, with discussions of introducing a new cast while also working on a project with Cage for the theaters. The script for the movie reportedly revolves around a quest to find the lost city of Atlantis.
Despite the ongoing speculation surrounding National Treasure, Cage has been keeping busy with other projects. His upcoming action horror film, Arcadian, is scheduled for release on April 12, with Cage serving as both the lead actor and producer. Additionally, he is set to appear in several upcoming films, including Longlegs, The Surfer, and Lords of War.
