Nicola Sturgeon tweets 'there are no words' as PM Liz Truss quits after 44 days

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has reacted to the news from Westminster just minutes after Liz Truss announced her resignation as Prime Minister.

A BBC Scotland political journalist pointed out the now former Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to leave office without ever having a formal meeting or phone call with the Scottish First Minister.

“If she doesn’t mind, I’ll now just wait for whoever will become the 5th PM (so far) during my time as [First Minister],” Sturgeon quipped on Twitter.

Sturgeon has also reasserted calls for a general election, and momentum is building amongst other Scottish MSP’s and political representatives.

“There are no words to describe this utter shambles adequately. It’s beyond hyperbole and parody,” Sturgeon Tweeted after the news broke.

“Reality though is that ordinary people are paying the price. The interests of the Tory party should concern no-one right now. A General Election is now a democratic imperative.”

The Scottish Lib Dem party also echoed calls for a general election immediately after Liz Truss resigned.

“The Conservatives have proven time and time again they are not fit to lead our great country. We do not need another Conservative Prime Minister. We need a general election, we need the Conservatives out of power and we need real change,” the party Tweeted on Thursday.

The Scottish Conservatives have yet to release or Tweet any statements.
