Nicola Sturgeon trolls herself as she celebrates putting up Christmas tree with viral meme celebrating Jo Swinson seat loss

Twitter game has been on fire in recent months, with the SNP leader being especially active on her account during the general election.

The First Minister enjoyed a bumper evening last Thursday, returning 48 MPs in Scotland to bolster her push for a referendum.

But one particular highlight sent social media went into meltdown - when Nicola was caught on camera reacting to 27-year-old SNP candidate Amy Callaghan unseating Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson in Dunbartonshire East.

Her wild celebrations were turned into a viral meme - and now Sturgeon is poking fun at herself using the clip.

Updating followers while decorating her Christmas tree, she wrote: "And so it begins. Leading an election campaign is a breeze compared to the domestic strife that will ensue over the next couple of hours."

And four seamless hours later, she shared the gif alongside the caption: "TFW the Christmas tree is up and you’ve had only the mildest of disagreements with your husband."

The run up to the election was dogged with accusations of #fakenews, with certain politicians hiding in fridges to avoid scrutiny.

But Sturgeon was determined her followers new her tree decorating skills were up to par as she posted her and her husband's effort in all it's glory.

She followed up with a snap of the finished product, tweeting: "Here is the photographic evidence."

Fans were loving her top notch internet skills.

Sean wrote: “YOU USED THAT GIF THE SHADEEEEEEEE”

While another social media user posted: “Wins a mandate on Thursday; wins the internet on Sunday.

“Pretty good week all told, First Minister.”

And Tony said: “Brilliant, on you go Nicola perfect gif choice”.

The Nat came in for a bit of backlash over her exuberant reaction, with Lib Dem MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton interpreting it as celebrating the fall of his close pal Swinson.

However Sturgeon hit back, saying she was just overjoyed that young colleague Callaghan, who battled cancer as a teen, won a place in the Commons.
